About SaleGain

SaleGain is an independent, advertising-supported website. SaleGain turns the worksheets in IRS Publication 523 into transparent browser tools so homeowners can see how ownership and use tests, adjusted basis and selling costs fit together before they list or file.

What we publish

Five calculators covering the Section 121 exclusion limit, home-sale gain or loss, taxable gain after exclusion and depreciation, a seller net sheet, and an adjusted basis worksheet, plus guides and a glossary. We do not prepare returns or sell homes.

How we research

Formulas mirror IRS Publication 523 (2025, for preparing 2025 returns; worksheets remain the Sec. 121 math), IRS Topic 701, the IRS sale-of-residence tax tips page, Publication 551 and the About Form 8949 page. Each calculator and guide links its sources. We summarize; we do not copy IRS text. Every figure that comes from a third party is linked at the bottom of the page where it is used, and every page shows when it was last reviewed. If a carrier, retailer or organisation changes its published information, the official source wins over anything on this site.

How the tools work

Arithmetic runs in your browser from the figures you enter. Nothing is uploaded. Results are educational estimates for a labelled tax year, not a closing disclosure or a filed Form 8949.

How we make money

SaleGain shows advertising (Google AdSense) and does not accept payment from insurers, brokers, banks or any company in exchange for coverage in our guides. We do not sell leads, and we do not sell or recommend any specific insurance policy or financial product.
